Discontinuing Support for the OMS Email Module

On January 1, 2024, we will support the OMS/Pavo Email Module and the OMS Email Module will no longer be supported.

Beginning on January 1, 2024, the OMS Email Module that does not use the Pavo service will no longer be supported in favor of the OMS/Pavo Email Module. Master System makes no guarantee or will support the OMS Email Module after the end-of-life date.

Why is the OMS Email Module being discontinued?

Over the last several years, the two largest email providers that our customers work with, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, have been strengthening their security settings to not require username and password authentication in favor of an OAuth2 connection.

What is Microsoft changing?

Microsoft originally announced in April 2019 that Exchange will be deprecating Basic Authentication. You can read the original announcement here. Microsoft has been emailing several follow-ups to its customers. Customers that have subscribed to Microsoft 365 since that date have had several security settings enabled that disable basic authentication.

Microsoft has published a more final version of the announcement here:

In addition, if your company has two-step verification turned on for your Microsoft 365 accounts, there are additional steps to disable these default security settings which further increases the complexity of setting up email.

What is Google changing?

Google originally announced in December 2019 that "Less Secure Apps" will be turned off by default. You can read the original announcement here.

After several delays, Google announced in May 2022 that they will stop allowing less secure apps for non-Google Workspace customers. While it does not apply to Google Workspace customers, we anticipate this will be announced in the near future and have already taken steps.

In addition, Google has enforced two-step verification on all logins as of October 2021, which further adds steps to allowing less secure apps and increases the complexity of setting up email using the less secure method.

What impact does this have on the OMS Email Module?

If your company uses Microsoft 365 for email and your email addresses are connected to OMS, you may not be able to send emails out of OMS because of these changes.

For Google Workspace, we anticipate this will occur very soon. Your company will need to evaluate how long it wants to continue supporting Google's Less Secure Apps feature with OMS.

If your company does not use either of these email providers, you might not be affected, but after our end-of-life date we will not longer support the module if your company experiences issues sending emails from OMS.

This includes sending email for invoices, orders, and A/R billing statements from OMS.

What's the solution?

The updated OMS/Pavo Email Module utilizes Pavo, the online connection system exclusively used with OMS. Pavo connects with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace using the new OAuth2 authentication method as well as utilizes the Microsoft Graph API and Google Cloud API.

These authentication methods are the recommended methods by both Microsoft and Google, and any future support for the OMS Email Module will be supported via Pavo.

The new OMS/Pavo Email Module requires a Master System Service Agreement. OMS Cloud customers are automatically provided with the emailing feature. Please contact us if your company is looking to continue emailing using OMS.
